Australian visitor visa
Get your Australian visitor visa now because the border to international travellers comes down in three weeks time on 21 February. This is the first time in two years that overseas tourists will be able to enter the country.
The country has been shut down due to Covid and only returning citizens and a few specialist and highly skilled migrants have been able to enter.
In opening the country again to tourists, the government aims to move the country back to a more normal footing and help the tourism industry.
Australian Visitor visa vaccination
Besides your Australian Visitor Visa, you will need one other thing to enter Australia – proof of being “fully vaccinated” against Covid.
So, what does “fully vaccinated” mean? It means two doses of a vaccine which is approved by Australia.Currently, there are a number of vaccines acceptable to Australian authorities for vaccination against Covid. These include:
- Sinopharm China
For full information about vaccines which meet Australian requirements go to this link: https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/vaccinated-traveller
Australian Visitor Visa If You Are Unvaccinated?
If you are unvaccinated then you will need to apply for a travel exemption and provide proof you cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. There is no guarantee of visa approval. Your application will only be considered if you supply the necessary evidence.
The government expects all people wishing to come to Australia to abide by its double vaccination requirement.
Will “Fully Vaccinated” Mean More Than Double Vaccination?
The Australian government has clarified that the definition of “fully-vaccinated” will not change to mean three doses of a vaccine. “Fully vaccinated” means two doses and does not a third booster dose.
But besides Visitor Visas, on 21 February Australia will open to the holders of all visas (at present the holders of only 43 visa categories are eligible for entry to the country). Of course, the double vaccination requirement applies to all of these as well.
Australia has already opened up for the past couple of months to international students and backpackers. For information on this go to: https://www.pm.gov.au/media/reopening-tourists-and-other-international-travellers-secure-our-economic-recovery
